Amur Leopard …

We spent four days in San Diego, so of course we visited the San Diego Zoo. I just downloaded my DSLR photos to the iPad for sorting, and a few jumped out at me, including this one. This leopard is a critically endangered species whose home habitat is southwestern Russia. So beautiful. I just wish the two cats at the zoo had a bigger space — more than just the large cage they live in.

Longhorn…

On this first day if 2013 I took a bike ride down Johnston Road to take photos of the Longhorn cows with my DSLR. Cattle were grazing under a tree, a good distance from the roadside fence. Using my 70–300mm zoom lens I was able to get pretty decent pictures. Because of the differences between 35mm film and the digital sensors on a DSLR, a 300mm lens give the equivalent of using (approximately) a 450mm. Longhorn in Florida…

Would you believe fake alligators?

Two fun photos today from a bicycle ride around Shark Valley Loop in the Everglades National Park. Wildlife abounds in the park, but we were really surprised to see several alligators sunning on the side of the trail not 100 yards from the beginning of the ride. I stopped to take a picture, and upon closer inspection it was obvious that the gator was not real.
