Street music …

This will be the last post featuring art in New York City — we are heading back south to Florida tomorrow, and whatever I post from the road will be from my iPhone camera. For a number of years I have been “collecting” photographs of street musicians. Whenever I hear someone play music on the street, or in an underground train station, I stop to take a picture. This photo is an early one, from 2003.

Northport ArtWalk Street Music…

a trip to John’s Pass Boardwalk in Maderia Beach…

Recently we met some friends from up north (way north, they are from Minnesota) at the John’s Pass Boardwalk in Madiera Beach, just north of St. Petersburg Beach on the Gulf of Mexico. The area is made for tourists, in fact, without tourists I don’t think there would be a John’s Pass. The most fun of being there, with my Nikon DSLR and telephoto lens, was observing the observers.

Me & Eddie…

When we stayed at Disney for my birthday, I was given a Disney Photo Pass with as a birthday gift. I thought that meant a free photo (the Photo Pass is a card that you have the Disney photographers swipe when you have them take your photo — and they are everywhere around the Disney parks). Only in New York…

A week ago Sunday, Eddie and I took the train into New York City for a day doing one of our favorite things — a long walk downtown taking in the sights and sounds of the city, and eating in Chinatown. On our walk I took pictures of a few “only in New York” moments. The first of which was pretty astounding — a pianist playing a baby grand piano in the middle of Washington Square park. My friend Madeline and I were in Northport this morning, and as we walked past the park, we saw a film crew setting up. Given the three American flags in front of the cameras, we thought it might be for a political ad. But just who was the bald man having his tie adjusted?
