The surf off the Naples Pier was very rough this afternoon — and the wind was howling. The end of the pier was closed off, and I still got wet taking photos from the rail. The Naples shoreline is lined with with large houses — this is one of the smaller ones.
We are staying at a friend’s condo on Marco Island in Southwest Florida — just of the coast from Naples. Today we took a ride inland, and we came upon the planned community of Ave Maria, which surrounds Ave Maria University. The center piece of the community is a huge cathedral — modern in all aspects, but adorned with traditional statues of saints in patina of gold. I cannot say I liked it, but it was an awesome sight, inside and out. These two photos…Continue Reading “Ave Maria …”
While I was sorting some of my recent photos in Adobe Lightroom, I came across this photo I took in New York City last week. We were walking downtown in the early evening, and the light was good enough for me to get a pretty nice shot of the Freedom Tower under construction on the site of the World Trade Center. I took the shot from SOHO, which is probably a mile from the construction site.
Sometimes I see something that I just have to take a picture of — like this one I took yesterday afternoon at the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Perry Street in Greenwich Village. I can only think that Caesar (or Cicero?) was put on this fire escape to greet everyone who passed by.
My last post, earlier in the month, features the NYC poster I designed in June. We were back in the city today, and in Union Square, on our way back to Penn Station, we happened upon a group of ballroom dancers. I love wandering around the city — always something interesting and unexpected to photograph. iPhone image edited on the iPad
One of my posts in June featured a photo I took on one of our many walk in New York City. After going through my New York City photos, I used it, and eleven other images to put together a NYC poster in the same style as the Northport poster from last summer. Yesterday my new, MacBook Pro / Retina Display arrived — and today I have it set up and ready to go. The display is absolutely magnificent, and the SSD drive (solid state…Continue Reading “NYC Poster”
After I prepared my photos for last week’s ArtWalk I started going through the rest of the fall/winter/spring shoots for images I wanted to work with. This is an image I really like. I included it in a New York City poster that combined twelve images, but I decided that it would make a good stand-alone image as well. The original was in color, but I made a copy in grayscale, then combined the two so that only the bikes show color.
Mother’s Day was a perfect Sunday to stroll in downtown New York — and it was fun snapping photos along the way. I had two cameras with me, my Panasonic for images I wanted to capture in RAW format for later work, and my iPhone for photoblog images.

The Mall itself is under construction, which definitely takes away much of the majesty of our nation’s capital. I visited the National gallery while Eddie and Brian went to the Air & Space Museum. I went to see and exhibit of street photography and another featuring drawings by Picasso. Photography wasn’t allowed in the galleries I visited, but on the way I passed through…Continue Reading “The Nation’s Capital…”
