I created this composite photograph in 2001. I took the photo of the little girl, a neighbors child, as a memorial service in the Northport Village park that September. I thought the photo as today approached, and recently went searching for it in my archives. It invokes the feeling that I think are appropriate for this anniversary. It is my hope that instead of spending today looking back, I hope that America, and Americans, will look forward, putting aside the intolerance, pettiness and suspicion that has dominated the last decade. We cannot let the “bad guys” win by changing ourselves into their mirror image. That is the best way to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
