The other day I watched a video podcast of The Grid, produced by NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals). The hosts, Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, showed a series of photographs that were submitted for critique on a previous show. All of the photos had obvious flaws, and they used this podcast to contrast the flawed photos with much better photos of similar subjects. Much of the critique was worthwhile, but I had to take exception to of few of their points, one of which was that, according to the show hosts, for outstanding photos you have to visit outstanding locales. While it is a lot easier to get beautiful photos in beautiful locations, interesting, even outstanding subjects, can often be found in our own backyard. What really matters is the light, composition and processing.
I haven’t figured out a way to add the slideshow back into my blog, I guess because I cannot figure out why the feature disappeared in the first place! Anyway, I think it is time I devote some effort into redoing the blog. Whether it will mean a total revamp, or just fix what is broken, I am not sure…just have to see where this takes me. A day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. I took lots of photos with the DSLR, but I used the iPhone to capture the underwater hippo.
We were bike riding on the Withlochoochee Trail today (a Rails-to-Trails path near us in Florida) when, in the small town of Nobleton, we passed a property with goats in a pen. Unfortunately this poor tiger is not located “in the forest burning bright.” He is one of a long line of tigers that have been on display at this truck stop and gas station off Interstate 10 in Grosse Tete, Louisiana. The tiger attracts a lot of attention — poor creature. What a horrible way for a magnetic animal to live.
This Mountain Lion is another resident of the Sonora Desert Museum.
